There are two major types of gum disease, gingivitis and periodontal disease. Both types usually cause gums to bleed and become swollen, red and sore so if you notice any of these symptoms you should make an appointment to see your dentist.

If left untreated, gum disease will eventually affect the bone supporting the teeth, causing teeth to fall out – so it really does pay to get treatment sooner rather than later.
